Furlough Fridays: STEM @ Your Library

Life as a Fed is not all fun and games these days. Many of us are facing mandatory pay cuts in the form of furloughs.

My suggestion for this extra time in your schedule? Find a voluntary cause to support and get going.

I personally had several opportunities already lined up to do STEM Education Outreach programs with the St. Mary’s County Public Library system: Science of Flight and Excavating the Ocean Floor, both part of the Dig Into Reading Summer Theme.

growingSTEMs and the NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER (NAWC) AIRCRAFT DIVISION (AD) Education Outreach Office collaborated to produce these programs, along with two others: Racin’ Rovers and Rockin’ Out.

All were hugely successful!

For more information about our programs, check out www.growingstems.org in the media section. More STEM @ Your Library programs are planned for the fall. Look for the fliers from your library!

growingSTEMs also does programs at River Concert Series, with the RoboBees local Robotics FIRST Robotics team, with Boy Scouts of America, and at other local STEM events throughout the year. Look for our booth! growingSTEMs is a local non-profit organization run by engineers, scientists and people with an interest in mentoring students of all ages in learning more about STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

We bring expertise and enthusiasm for STEM to any environment. Come join us!
